Few opportunities exist to engage with the humyn + more-than-humyn life in ceremony with the old-growth forests in the Olympics. This journey is a unique blend of community + solitude—carrying a simple (+ sometimes a bit heavy) backpack with essentials to stay warm and survive and care for community and the wild. And then we continue on, ascending through the valley—an enchanting sun-lit birthing temple with 5,000' vertical walls of granite to touch the source of the flowing rivers at the edge of the glacier. We continue South--experiencing the movement source to flow the beginning of another river, and we land there--accompanied by a meadow of wildflowers and emergence, and we empty our packs—we empty all we have been carrying for far too long—the pain, the traumas, the purposeless, the pride, the ego, the lostness, the dignity, the joy, all of it... We become empty + exposed for the sacred meadows, mountains, and rivers to take us in and keep us, and we begin again... carried through this sacred temple of Earth and into the true nature of this phase of our lives—awake, clear, embodied.

A backpacking quest invites the crucible of the trail to illuminate the trials and ordeals as well as the liberating pulse that your soul is longing to experience.

For instance, if it's your first time backpacking, you will likely come away from this experience being knowledgeable and experienced for future self-supported backpacking endeavors. And if you are already well-versed in backpacking and the backcountry, you too will come away from this experience with a deeper, participatory and felt sense of soul and body as part of Earth

This experience is hosted by Rite of Passage Journeys. "Rite of Passage Journeys has operated in the Pacific Northwest since the mid-1980s. Our programs first started in Chicago in 1968 at the Ecumenical Institute, which later became the Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA). The ICA has an incredible and radical history of social activism; this tradition was the catalyst for the Journeys program"
